    100 years ago Scrabby had a famous horsefair on the 11th December.

    edge - into the water got beyond their depth. Thus was now a critical point in the race. When, and in order to give the first swimming stroke the horses always turned on one side. Many of the Jockeys got unseated then and of course lost the race. The first home was the winner. This Race (water) was the most exciting event of the year. Related by John Sloane who witnessed one of them himself. He died in 1924 at the age of 99.
