- Candle Making.
The way to make a rush candle is to get a good thick rush and peel off the 2/3s of the skin of it. Leave on a bit of skin so as to keep it together. Then leave it out in the sun for a couple of day's to season. Melt some grease in a grisset and dip the rush in it and the rush will soak the grease because it is dry. A grisset is a sort of a pan which was used long ago for mealting grease in for rush candles. The people long ago when they had the candle made used to put it in a candle stick about three feet high and there used to be prong's on it like plier's. A rush candle was the only sort of a light the people had long agoDrawing
