- The people in olden times used to make their own bread. The bread was made from the wheat and oats they grew themselves at home. Long ago the people had grind-stones for grinding their own oats and what.
The kind of bread that was used by the people long ago was boxty bread, potato bread, oaten meal bread and wheaten bread. The people used to make the bread on a Monday and it did for the week.
The people used to put marks on the tops of the cakes so that if the cakes rose too high the skins would not fall of them. The vessel in which the bread used to be baked was called a pot oven. Long ago the people used to bake the bread on pans without a vim. Collected by Sue O Reilly
