Old Crafts (cont.)
Dyeing in country districts has ceased this 80 years. The last dyer in this district was a man named Hughes. He lived in the townland of Lismeen. Since spinning + weaving ceased in country places dyers are not required.
Thatching is still carried on in this district but owing to the galvanised iron roofs thatchers are not in much request now.
Rope-making or tanning of leather was never carried on in this district.
Churn and firkin making went on in a flourishing way in this part of the country until the creameries came into existence. Since then + also the coercive methods used against(continues on next page)- Collector
