- (Long ago,) It is an old custom to honour the month of May by doing the following things:-
I
"The May Queen."
All the children dress up in lovely dresses, veils, and wreaths, and go to a certain place, where the loveliest girl would is be selected and made "Queen".
They take her and put her on a throne; then march in a procession through the town or village, holding up her long train. They, also, throw flowers at her and honour her, as though she were a Queen. This, of course, makes the old people very happy for it makes them remember their own youth.- Collector
