- (continued from previous page)because there was a forge there over a hundred years ago. The Pye Mop gate means the big hill gate. It is at the top of a very big hill and that is how it got its name. The Tory Bush between Kingscourt and Bailieboro is supposed to get its name because the land about it is rough and wild, and it was there some of the Irish men who were called Tories did gather when they were driven out of their homes by the English. The River of the Wells is a small river which separates Derry from Clusnabraden. It has three wells on its bank, right beside each other, it is said that long ago these wells were not there but that there were ones the same on another(continues on next page)
