  1. About fifty or sixty years ago the old people washed their clothes by the river-side. They brought their clothes and a tub and a beetle. Then they lit a fire and boiled the water. Then they put the clothes into a tub and beetled them. After they washed the clothes they put them out to dry. Then they washed the children. A number of women gathered together for the washing but this was only done in the Summer time,
