  1. Long years ago there resided in the district of Bailieboro a farmer known as Matthew Nelly. One night as he was returning home late from the fair of Kells with a pony and cart, when he got within a mile or two of his home he (when he got within) was surprised to see a funeral coming toward him.
    There was no such thing as a hearse in those days, and the coffin was according to custom, being carried on a "bearer", on the shoulders of four men who were replaced by four
