  1. The Local fairs
All the fairs around here are held in towns. There used to be a fair in Muff once a month but it is changed to once a year now. It is held on the twelfth day of August. It is only for the sale of horses. All the fairs are held on the streets in our towns.
When the animals are sold the people give 'luck money'. It is called a 'luck penny'. The people show their agreement by striking hands and some of them spit.
Some of the animals are marked with something like lead. It is used by jobbers. Some of the people work with red lead or tar. The people give the halter away with the horses they do not give it away with any other animals.
