    when they went into some old house or barn. The scholars wrote on slates with slate pencils. These were to be had during the time of the "Penal Days" and after them.
    Another of these old schools was situated in Tullyinchin, convenient to Barrickallen church. It was to this school that the old people of this district used to go. Some of these schools were for protestant children but most of them were for Catholic children.
