  1. Forty three years ago there was a severe snow storm in Ireland.
    For many days before the storm started the sky looked threatening.
    On January 6th with a gale from the east the show began to fall.
    It continued to snow for three days and three nights.
    When the show had ceased falling, there were, in some places wreaths from fifteen to twenty feet deep.
    Traffic was held up for about a fortnight and even then it was very inconvenient to travel.
    As the weather turned frosty the snow lasted until the 17th of March.
