  1. He was riding on a horse past the spaw well at Cornakill.
And this early mawrnin' as he was going past the spáw-well, there was a cat sittin' at it, "Good Mawrnin', Maam" says my Uncle.
"Good Mawrnin Sir" says the cat.
The wee dawg was at his heels - He awlways follied him no matter where he went, And he nearly tore the life out of the cat.
"You'll be sorry for that" says she "For you'll die, for lettin the dawg worry me".
"Well it wasn't my fault Ma'am" Sez my Uncle,
"I done my best to keep him off yow".
"Well its no matter" says she, "I have a big battle to fyht tomorrow in Donegawl.
"And if I lose the battle you'll die James Donahy.
"And if I win the battle you'll go free" says she.
"And how will I know Ma'am" says he "whether you'll win or lose?" "Well I'll tell you what you'll do" said the cat.
"Come down early to the spaw well And if the well is muddy you'll die" says she "And if the well is clean you'll go free"!
My Uncle came down the next mawrnin and the well was quite clean.
James always smoked whilst telling this story for the story was punctuated by loud smacks at the pipe - which went out [?] time during the telling - "A bit of paper there Maggie" - Then when the pipe was lit the story was continued.
