  1. Old Houses:
    Long ago nearly all the houses were thatched except those belonging to the wealthy landlord
    The thatch was made from pulled straw Then it was put on in bundles on the roof and fastened on with "scolops."
    The use of cement was unknown and the floors are made of clay. On nearly every house there were two doors. One full door and a half door. The windows were few and small
    The beds were in the kitchen. They were called "settle" beds. They were made of wood and were very comfortable.
