Long ago the people believed in old cures. They seldom brought a doctor for any disease. They treated many diseases with their own cures.
The jaundice was cured with herbs that grew along the roads.
The whooping-cough by getting a grain of sugar from a neighbour and giving it to the sufferer.
A heart-burn was cured by eating boiled alder nuts in the morning.
A sprain was cured by rubbing goose-seam to it.
