- Before Lent and before Advent is the usual time for marriages. Many customs are connected with this holy event.
On the morning of the wedding an old shoe is throw after the bride for luck when she is leaving the house.
When the bride and groom emerge from the chapel they are greeted with showers of rice.
A party is usually given in the bride's house on the night of the wedding. Sometimes the couple go away on their honeymoon.
Sometimes a crowd of men or boys dress in straw and go to the bride's house. They usually get money. These are called strawmen.
