- Cows
Cows are often called "Pookey", Bawnen, Ruby, Daisy, Jessy, Rosie, Warkie, Nannie, Nellie and Long Horns. The house in which they are kept is locally known as a cow-house, a byre or a skawball (sgiobol)
They are tied by means of a chain round the neck, by the horns or a straimpeen (straw rope) on front foot tied to the stake.
To bring luck holy water is shaken on cow when calving, part of the cleaning is kept in cow-house, one or two crubeens or part of horn of dead cow is kept to bring luck. If this is done(continues on next page)
