    At a recent Folklore conference it was stated by a speaker that the Wedding of Ballyporeen was typical of a country wedding. If he meant that it was typical of a country in the Ballyporeen district he was guilty of a foul libel on its spirited and cultured people.
    Not far from Ballyporeen in the townland of Kilcoroon beside the road to Clogheen, stands the whitethorn tree now famous as the subject of the song known as "The Fairy Tree of Clogheen." The legend concerning this whitethorn tre, is that at the time the Danes were
