- The Fairy Tree
About a mile from Ballyporeen and three miles from Clogheen stands the Fairy Tree. It is commonly known as the "Carragan Bush" owing to its situation on a very high hill overlooking the main road from Clogheen to Ballyporeen. The fairy Tree is only a name given it by people who wish to make themselves grand.
The tree is also known as the "One mile tree" as it marks a mile from Ballyporeen. The hill is called "One tree hill" as this tree is the only one growing on the hill and that on the summit. The bush is a blackthorn bush and the fruit it bears are very tiny and no-body even birds or animals(continues on next page)- Collector
