    Old Schools.
    There is an old school over in Michael Macmahon's below the road and the children of Effernan were going to school there thirty years ago.Mrs Fitzgerald and Mr.Glynn were teaching there.
    There was an old school below in Pat Clancy's garden and where it was there is a bush growing near it.You can only see the foundation of it now.The place they had for sitting was planks and forms and chairs and they used slates to write on.
    Long ago the scholars went to school in Tom Crehan's barn in the night.It was called a night school .There was only one teacher teaching them.
    Long ago there was a teacher going around teaching the children .His name was Michael Mc Tigue .He stayed a week in every house and the people had to feed him.He got about three shillings and sixpence a week.
    Long ago there was a hedge school in Francie Kennedy's land in Coolmeen.The teacher
