- There is only one forge at present in the parish of Killofin. It is owned by James O Sullivan He learned the trade from his father, who also had the forge, but who died some years ago.
The forge is situated on the side of the road in the townland of Clonkerry.
At one time there were four forges in the district, Frawley's, Doyle's, Sullivan's and Foley's.
Most forges are thatched but Frawleys is a slated one.
The doors of most forges are double-doors, and there [are] old horseshoes nailed on to them.
The door of a forge is always left unlocked so that people can enter night or day.
There is only one fire-place in a forge, and the fire is built on a hob about two and a half feet high.(continues on next page)- Collector
