Ghost in the well is not a favourite game. One child acts as ghost at the well and when others children are sent to the well for water the ghost frightens them and they run home for their mother. When the mother comes she asks what he wants. He says he wants sand to sharpen a knife to cut off their heads and he runs after them, while they all run for their lives. The first caught by him is ghost the next time.
"Hounds & hares" is played by boys. Two boys represent hares and all the others are hounds and run after the hares to catch them.
Many games are played on Hallow eve night. One is to tie an apple with a cord to the ceiling. Then all get their hands tied behind their backs and they try in turn to catch the apple with their teeth. Another game for that night is to put an apple swimming on a tub of water and all try to see who could take the apple out in his mouth.
All the children in this district gather blackberries in the Autumn. They sell the blackberries in town. They compete for which family can gather most in the season. Asking riddles(continues on next page)- Collector
