    the same family met her death in the flood. Some five or six bridges spanned this river but were all swept away. There were landslides in various places. The high tension fuzes in the transformer were blown and the electrical engineer on coming from Limerick to repair the damage found his way blocked some yards from Ballina by a broken bridge.
