Poor old Vaughan being old and infirm always carried a stick,He couldnt stand insult offered his dignity by Sexton who was a wag.He resented been called a piper -So he used the stick on the would be poet knocking him off the horse.Immediately there was a faction fight which put an end for ever to the Ballinaglera Pattern.
Old Johnnt Mulcahy lived next to O Connors in the the 19th Century -He had 3 sons and 2 daughters.Martin stayed at home .One girl married Magie in Derry Castle Co.Tipp and one married Moloney of Scariff. Magie and family went to USA Wedmond
his brother-in -law .
Martin Mulcahy and his wife Mary Lanhead and his daughter Catherine and his son James lived an industrial and frugal life on eight acres of land -being good and honest-Martin worked with the landlord Purdon for a shil a 12 hour day digging the land and had to supply his own food and water1 1/2 miles each way existing on spuds and Indian stirabout .His wife Mary did the digging at home -(period 1845-1850).This was about the bad times or a year or two later .One instance of this mans extreme honesty(continues on next page)- Collector
