- Hurling is the usual game played ever here. We had very good hurlers in this paring. When our team won, we were always delighted and when they won the championship of the County, we put a light in every window.
Every house was lighted up except the Police Barracks which was just beside us.
I remember once we had two rival teams caused by a split amongst the hurlers.
The teams were:
The OBriens (William) and the
Wolfe Jones.
The people had a great love for William OBrien. He was often in Bodyke in the days of the Eviction but I doubt if many of them knew much about Wolfe Jones.
They were very bitter with each other.
Just like the two political parties were some years ago.
Thank God that bad spirit is gone and they can meet and discuss politics now with out any kind of friction.
The last election in July 1938 was a model one.(continues on next page)
