  1. In the 6th century a monastery was built in Kithchen, (?) Cobh Bay on the eastern end of the town and another in Spike Island by Saint Carthage. When the Danes invaded this country they took it and the English took it from them. Spike Island at that time was called at the Holy-Island. The monastery in Spike Island was inhabited by a crowd of monks. When the English came they took it from them and they burnt it down. Now it is only an old ruin.
