In this district years ago young girls used to go around with the brideóg on the first of February for St Bridgid's Day. The brideóg was composed of a turnip or round object dressed like a baby. The girls would go from house to house like the wren boys gathering money. They would first stand at the door and repeat the rhyme and they would afterwards go in and let them see the brideóg.
