   Chadville (see map page 74) ancient name Bearna Dhearg, still well known to the people. Renamed Rev Mr Chadville who lived there early 18th century.

   (last syllable in each pron "line" as in English. I could never bring myself to believe that this ending has anything to do with "flax". It is my contention that it is Laighean. The border between the ancient Gabhra Theas (South Leinster) and Mumha passed close at hand.
   Ráth Uí Bhéara. O Sullivan Beare camped here (couple of miles east of Cappawhite village. Let us in imagination reconstruct the scene : camp, camp fires, picked men on guard. Native approaches one of the latter & holds converse. "Cé h-é bhur gceann feadhna?" "Béara" curtly replies the guard and the native tells all that it is an Béorach who is passing. Hence they afterwards called his camp "Ráth Uí Bhéora".
   Whether I heard above or dreamed it, I cannot say.
   My informant may have been Mr Schofield Journalist, Newtown, who lived beside the Ráth & who has, by the way, traced out the old road.

   Crows would not build on the estate although he engaged a professional to make nests for them & did all in his power to entice them (See 'Maud" page 3)
