- In the time of our grandparents doctors and surgeons were unknown by the people. Instead quack-doctors or men who had some experience of illness resided in each district. Austin Lyons was the quack in this district and was a good bone-setter and veterinary surgeon. When doctors or bone-setters did come he excelled them all and people from Claremorris and Ballinrobe used to come to him.
