  1. Long ago there were no doctors in Ireland to operate on people. I will now relate the old cures that were in my district. The cure the people had for pleurisy was to bleed the person in the arm or leg. When the blood would be left standing a while it would turn blue. All they could eat was crock butter and oat bread.
    When the people had a bad cold they would eat buttermilk gruel and it would cure them. An old disease the people were suppose to have was called ? in Irish. The spoon of the bread was supposed to fall into the stomach. The cure for that was to bake three oatmeal cakes
