The devil roared out begging of the blacksmith to allow him free and he would never trouble him again. The devil was allowed free and Willie lived a happy life after that, until finally he died many years afterwards. He first went to Heaven but on knocking was told he wouldn't be allowed in, as he sold himself to the devil while on earth. He then went to hell and knocked at the gates. Somebody asked who was knocking. "Willie the wisp is here" said Willie. "Well" said the devil "I got enough of you before and you will not come in here now."
Willie then turned away and he is said to be travelling the country ever since carrying a huge light, as he will not be let into heaven or hell.
