The father married again a lady from the South of Ireland who was very jealous of the young prince. She took such a hatred against him that she told lies about him to her husband.
The king, believing her, determined to kill his son.
It reached the prince's ears and he resolved to leave home.
He had only gone a short distance when the king overtook him at Corryánne where he slew him.
As he was dying he told his father to pull a bunch of rushes and if he was innocent, water would spring up.
The king did so and no sooner had he pulled the rushes than water rushed up, began to flow and formed the source of the present river.
Ronán was furious now, when he saw he had his son killed in the wrong and he ran home to kill his wife. She saw him coming and fled, but he followed and succeeded in killing her at Kilbride, where she is buried.
