When the mother returned, she gave the child sweets, biscuits and other presents. That night the tailor told his wife what had taken place while she was away.
"I must see for myself", said she "I will go out for a pail of water, I will listen outside the door, but I will make no noise"
The child repeated the same words as before and the farmer began to dance to the music. When all was over, the wife came in and said, "Put down a fire".
The farmer went out to the yard, brought in a big bag of turf and put down a good fire.
When the fire was well kindled the wife said to the husband.
"I am going to burn that child - it is a fairy, otherwise, it would never have carried on like that while I was out"
The child, who was in the cradle at the time heard what she was saying.
Then the mother said "Come here to me now child and I will nurse you awhile"
The child jumped up out of the cradle, made for the door, ran away like lightening and was never seen afterwards.
