- We have a churne at home. it is about three feet in height. its measure in diameter is about two feet and a half on the bottom and about two feet on the top. The middle is about six inches smaller than the top of the churn. There are six hoops on the churn, two double ones at top and bottom.
During the Winter my mother churns once a week but during the Summer season she churns twice and three times a week. Every one in the house takes a brash at the churn as people says it is unlucky not to do so. If a neighbor woman comes in she also helps with the churn/churning is always done by the hand in this locality. When little grains of butter appear as large as peas on the dash the churn is completed.
In the Winter time hot water is poured in during the process as the weather is very cold. A butter strainer is used for separating the butter from the buttermilk.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
