When the midges are biting sharp in the Summer it is a sign of rain. When there is a far of ring round the moon it denotes a near storm, and a near hand ring round the moon denotes a far off storm.
The far off hills seem near when there is going to be a storm. There is a proverb which I heard and the proverb is Evening red and morning grey is the sure sign of a fine day. Morning red and evening grey makes the sailor shake his head.
