- In olden times the people had only three meals per day. The names of the meals were breakfast, dinner, and supper. They got their breakfast in the morning and their dinner between one and two o'clock and their supper when they came in from working at night. The sun was their only guide for the time as there were no clocks to be had.
As soon as they would rise in the morning they went out to work in the fields, while the women would do the house work and prepare the breakfast. This meal usually consisted of potatoes and milk and after that a piece of oaten bread and butter.
