- I heard my mother saying that people began to wear boots as soon as they left school, but rich people wore them sooner. In summer men went barefooted as well as children. Nowadays most children go barefooted in summer. If you wash your feet on Hallow Eve night and throw out the water you will kill the fairis. Nearly every town in this district has a shoe maker or two. Some of them have started in the new and with some it has been a tradition in their families for many years.
Clogs used to be made in Ballybofey and bought and worn by the people round about.
In olden times the people tanned what leather they used. Poor people wore all kings of skins for boots and shoes, sometimes tanned and sometimes not.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
