Some of the country people when they would see a man carrying potatoes or corn which belonged to one of the Protestants they would rush upon him and take the potatoes and corn from him. The farmers got angry and got English soldiers to take many of the country people to jail. Many people were going away to America during the famine time and many left this district. All the food the people had was Indian porridge and milk and sometimes they ate the small potatoes even when the potatoes were not fit to be eaten.
