- About ninety years ago there was an Irish man who emigrated to New York. As it was his first time to be in so large a city he became greatly engrossed in all the wonderful sights of the city and during the first few days after he arrived there, he walked about from place to place with his hands in his pockets. One day as he was standing looking up at a large pole which had the head of a man carved on the top of it, a Yankee came along and he said to the Irish man "Well, Paddy, I bet you, there is not a pole similar to that one to be found in dear old Ireland, and believe me, a man takes his dinner on top of that pole every day.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
