   The yeomen sought him day and night
   Their efforts still in vain.

   The grey mists swirled about him and his face the moorwinds fanned
   As oft he paused and listened and the path before him scanned,
   When nigh a modest dwelling from the moorland path he swerved
   And entered Widow Mooney's house
   Alas! not unobserved.
   IV
   Alas! When he had baffled his shrewd pussuers all
   One he had deemed a faithful friend was planning his downfall
   For lurking in the heather was the traitor George Balfour,
   Who'd watched him quit the moorland path and enter Mooney's door.
   V
   The aged widow's heart was touched at this poor young man's plight
   And soon his hunger was appeased
