The Local Patron Saints
SS Peter and Paul are the patron saints of the parish of Balscadden and Balrothery and their feast day is held on the 29th June. This is the greatest day in the year for the Balrothery "Pattern" is held on this day on the green.
St Mobhi
St Mobhi lived in Balcunnin and the graveyard there is called St Mobhi graveyard. There is a hole in this graveyard, which is pointed out as the place where the man was swallowed by the earth because he was working on this field on the feast day of St Mobhi.
St Molaga
St Molaga had his monastery at Bremore near Balbriggan about a mile from the school on Mrs Bells farm, and the ruins are still to be seen there.
St Domnoc
St Domnoc lived in St Molaga monastery at Bremore. He was the first man to bring bee hives to Ireland. He brough them from St David monastery in Wales. The Irish became very fond of the bee keeping, and they used to make a drink from he honey, which was called mead.
