- The time of the year that the people of my locality get married is from New Year's Day to Ash Wednesday. People of my locality have it as an old superstition that the pair would live a long life together if married at that time of the year. Before a marriage comes a matchmaking. If the fathers of a boy and girl meet in a town they give each other drink. They then ask each other if the pair are a good match. The boy has to get a good fortune from the girl's father. At other times the boy's father gives a word to two or three men in the locality to be in search of a wife for his son. The fortune usually given by the people of this district is four hundred and eighty(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
