- There was once a woodcutter, he had one son his wife and his mother living in his little house with him. His work was cutting wood every day for the use of the kings palace the whole year round. One day when the king was walking round his beautiful parks he went into the wood and he saw the wood-cutter and the wood-cutter saw the king too but he did not know he was the king. The king came up to the wood-cutter and asked him what he was doing and the wood-cutter told him that he was cutting wood every day of the year for the use of the kings palace the king asked him how much was he getting for his work and the wood-cutter told him that he was getting fourpence a day and(continues on next page)
