   made the house of daub sand.Some of these houses are to be seen yet in Leinster.There was one window in the kitchen and there was one window in each of the other two rooms. The windows were very small and could not be opened for fresh air.There was only one door in the house but there was a half door also and that door was very small. There were no bolts or locks at that time and before going to bed at night the door was fastened by means of a stick at the back of the door. There was a hole at each side of the jamb.The stick was put into the holes and the holes were plugged by means of apiece of timber or a stone. There were no boarded floors at that time and the floors were made of daub sand.The fuel used long ago was turf and the people who were near the bog used to get the turf easily but those who were far away
