    The people had their quack - doctors all for the want of education. Now there is no excuse for anybody even the poorest to go without a good solid foundation in the well equipped national schools.
    My grandmother often told us about the hedge schools and hedge school masters of her own time. The teacher's name was Stafford a very very clever man but his real name was Rev. Father Srafford.
    He got into difficulties at a race meeting at Nenagh fell out with his Bishop sold his horse and saddle and took to the road. He came to Ballacurra and taught in a little hut there amongst others who went to school there were her two uncles, Pat and Francis Forde, afterwards Pat
