- St. Brigid's cross is a little cross about three inches long and two inches broad. It is made of timber. This cross is hung on the kitchen ceiling on St. Brigid's day.
It is supposed to save the inmates of the house from poison for the coming year because it is said that one day St. Brigid was on a journey and becoming thirsty she went into a certain house for a drink. A cup of water was given to her but she doubted that there was poison in it. She made a little cross over the cup and the cup broke in pieces, then she knew there was poison in it.
There is a little well in a beech tree near Toomard the water of which cures warts.- Bailitheoir
