The next landing-place is called the Paradise of Birds, so named from the remarkable varieties of birds found on its shores. On this island the community celebrated the festival of Pentecost.Once again the little company committed themselves of their barque to the mercy of the winds and waves and the ancient chronicle informs us that "Saint Brendan and his brethren were tossed about to and fro on the billows of the ocean for the space of three months, during which they could see nothing but sea and sky, and they took refreshments only every second day.In quaint and poetic words the Irish life of the Saint says, "Brendan son of Finnlugh, sailed over the waveroice of the strong-maned sea, and over the storm of the green-sided waves, and over the mouths of the marvellous awful bitter ocean, where they saw the multitude of the furious red-mouthed monsters with abundance of the great sea - whales. And they found beautiful marvellous islands, yet they tarried not therein". So the daring sailor saint endured the perils of the sea until he(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
