1. Old Houses

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   The houses in the olden times were very small. The people had to bend down to get in. There were thatched houses and the people always whitewashed them. There were small windows in them, and they were long.
   There were no storys in the old houses and they were very stuffy and unhealthy inside. There were about two rooms in the old houses. There are some of these old houses to be seen yet in the district. There was always a big clock hanging on the walls of the old houses and the fire down in a hole in the floor.
   There used to be a room upstairs in some of the houses, these used to be a loft and a ladder up to it.
   The houses nowadays are not built like the houses in olden times. The houses were built with Cré Bhuidhe and lime. The people got the Cré Bhuidhe in the bog. They had no slates for the roof. They thatched
