At the wedding house they would have sweet cakes and jelly and custard and porter and wine and all sorts of fruit. When the people who would be playing the music would come they would start playing and the married couple and the sponsors would dance first. During the night the straw-boys would come and dress themselves up with old rags and straw-mops and they would start playing and dancing and they would get a can of porter. Sometimes the people would not give them any porter and then they would go to where the sweet cakes and jelly would be left on the window and they used to lift up the window and steal the sweetcakes. Then when whoever would be making the tea would to up in the room for the sweetcakes they used to be in an aful (sic) way with shame and they used to have to send to the shop for a lot of loaves and jam. I heard that there was a wedding somewhere and the people who were inside would not let the straw-boys in and the spilled a barrel of water in under
