- Long ago the people of this district made their own candles baskets shoes barrels churns and other implements.
Bascets were made from sally rods and hazel rods.
Shoes were made from calves hide. When a calf would die the people skinned him. Then the hide was battered with a big hammer to stretch it and soften it.
When this was finished they made shoes of it/
