The way they do it is they put water into a barrel and they mix washing soda and bluestone together, this is put on the stalks to prevent blight.They are dug with spades and put into pits and covered with rushes and clay.In olden times starch used to be made as it could not be got in the shops. First the potatoes were grated then the water was taken off and this was used as starch.
